Spread the Spores – June 25, 2022

We didn’t know what to expect. It was June 25th, 2022, and we were hauling bins of grain bags, cultures, and one very confused tortoise into an elevator headed to the 8th floor of some old building in Long Beach. A few streets over from Culture Shrooms HQ, and about a thousand miles outside of our comfort zone.

This was our first-ever event. We called it Spread the Spores.

The scene when we arrived was pure underground magic. Vendors were already setting up in every corner—tall shelves of supplies, jars lined up, chocolate bars labeled with names you’d never find in a grocery store. The energy was wild. Almost like a high-end cannabis sesh, but all mushrooms. Mycologists, underground growers, and curious wanderers—it was raw and real and buzzing with potential.

We shared the space with Poppa Cap and West Coast Gold Caps, who would become some of our earliest ride-or-die event friends. There were over 15 vendors, each one pushing the edge of what this emerging space could be. Supply brands, psilocybin chocolate makers, spore vendors, even a few presentations tucked between the booths. Everyone was just… there for it.

We gave out a bunch of free stuff that day because honestly, we were just so stoked to be there. We brought Ricky, our tortoise, for his official event debut and he was a hit. People kept walking by like, wait… is that real? Yes. Yes, it is.

One of our favorite vendors we met that day was Magic Amour. She rolled in with these massive handmade mushroom piñatas that looked like they had been plucked straight out of a dream. We ended up using her piñatas at almost every event after that. They became kind of a staple. Still are.

Looking back, Spread the Spores wasn’t polished, but that was never the point. It was underground. It was family. It was our first glimpse of what this community could become.

And we’ve been chasing that magic ever since.
