Sometimes the smaller events are the ones that really hit

Mushroom Taste Fest was held at Culture Shrooms in Long Beach and put together by Mycelium Matters. It ran from two to six in the afternoon but it had that slow-and-steady energy where you could actually talk to people, try new things, and not feel rushed. The space smelled amazing the second you walked in—like the earthy scent of fresh mushrooms mixed with whatever was cooking up in the demo area

The day featured two main attractions. First was the “Learn How to Grow Your Own Mushrooms as Food” demo which broke things down into simple steps so even total beginners could see themselves doing it at home. Then came the mushroom cooking demo where the real magic happened. Smallhold’s oyster mushrooms were transformed into tacos that disappeared almost as quickly as they were made. You could hear people talking about the flavors long after they were gone

The event was sponsored by some of our favorite names in the space El Hongo Gourmet Mushroom Food, ShroomEats, Troop, Popdelics, Stem + Cap, Eons, Myco Alchemy and us! Everyone brought their own flavor to the table—literally and figuratively—and it all came together into this casual but really warm community day

It wasn’t the biggest or flashiest event we’ve been to but it was one of those afternoons where you left feeling satisfied in every way. Good people, great food, and the kind of shared knowledge that makes you want to go home and start something new
