Oklahoma Fungi Festival October 15 2023 Oklahoma City OK
This one was a game changer
The first Oklahoma Fungi Festival was hosted by Jacob DeVecchio at the Farmers Public Market in Oklahoma City and when I say he killed it I mean every single base was covered. From the planning to the afterparties to the lineup of speakers and vendors it felt like the whole myco world showed up for this one
Justin and I went all in for this trip. We packed up a 1975 Ford Pullman Camper on a trailer and hauled it 1400 miles to OKC just so we could set up a Twisted Tree hang zone outside the event. It ended up being one of my favorite setups we’ve ever done. People were hanging out all day and it gave us a space to connect in a way that felt more like home than a booth
The vendor and speaker list was stacked. We’re talking MycTyson from Performance Fungi otherwise known as The Myco Mentor, Max from Golden Mushroom Co, Poo God and the Colorado Crew, Mr Poopy Substrates, Mossy Creek Mushrooms, Midwest Grow Kits, Myco Labs, Blue Myco, Willy Myco, Brown Treasure Substrates, Myco Depot, Magic Myco, Mush Vroom, Glass Bunker, Mrs Vicious Pacific Substrates, Inoculate the World, Basidium Equilibrium, OKC Mycology, Shroomski, Culture Shrooms, Mycelium Matters, and so many more. It was like every corner you turned you were running into someone you’d followed, learned from, or worked with online and now here they were in person
We even got to be part of some of the lead-up fun. The night before the festival we sponsored the vendor bowling party which was such a good time. We also got to collaborate on a super cool interactive art space called “Twisted Tree Village” created by Creative 24 and High Hope Productions by @highitstarra. Seeing people explore it and hang out there all weekend was a highlight for me
The event itself was packed from the moment doors opened. Speakers, workshops, vendors—it was nonstop. The staff was incredible, keeping everything running smoothly despite the huge turnout. We sold out of everything within just a few hours which has never happened to us that fast before
More than anything this festival pushed us forward. We made new friends, built new business partnerships, and walked away feeling more connected to the myco community than ever. Oklahoma City showed up in a big way and this event will always be one of those moments where everything shifted for us
