Texas Mushroom Conference April 8 2023 Austin TX
This one felt like a real adventure
Justin had to stay back and take care of the farm so Alexa and I loaded up our oversized event luggage and flew out to Austin for our very first Texas mushroom event. The Texas Mushroom Conference was hosted by Myceliumatters at the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center and the moment we got there we knew it was going to be something special.
The turnout was incredible. From the minute doors opened we were busy and the crowd didn’t slow down. We were lucky to share a table with Omar from Culture Shrooms who flew in for the weekend too. The speaker rooms were packed all day and every talk had people engaged and asking great questions. You could feel how hungry everyone was for this kind of community and education.
We vended alongside some heavy hitters in the space Everyday Dose, Fallen Oak Mycology, Smallhold, Shroom Eats, Pegasus Bags, and the Texas Mycology Association just to name a few. Everyone brought their A-game and the energy was collaborative not competitive. That’s something we always appreciate.
One major highlight Shroom Eats had mushroom meatballs and I don’t say this lightly... they were life changing. Like fully started a mushroom meatball obsession that still hasn’t worn off. We also picked up a couple new myco-themed shirts to add to our growing collection. One day that collection is gonna be its own museum, mark my words.
The speaker lineup was stacked. Angel Schatz and Chris Garza covered mycoremediation and community programs. Josh Goggins gave an intro to cultivation. Garrett Wilkerson spoke on plastic-eating fungi which was mind-blowing. And Dr. Greg Fonzo from the UT Center for Psychedelic Research talked about psilocybin as therapy. The entire series was moderated by Alex Dorr of Mushroom Revival and he kept the conversations flowing with heart and clarity.
For our first time vending in Texas this could not have gone better. We made new connections, got to reconnect with old friends, and walked away even more rooted in why we do this.
Forever grateful to Myceliumatters for putting us in the room over and over again. They’re creating something powerful and we’re honored to be a part of it.
